Cleaning soil residues brought flood waters
- Since disinfectants are neutralized by the large quantities of organic materials found in soils. Disinfecting should always follow after soil cleanup.
- When fresh water is restored within the structure, mix a general purpose household cleaner and apply liberally to flooring and walls
- Use brush agitation to begin soil suspension and allow approximately 10 minutes of "dwell time".
- When possible and appropriate, use a water hose or pressure washer to flush soils and contaminants from surfaces. Start from top to bottom, walls to flooring.
- Use a wet vacuum or mop to clean up excess rinse water from flooring materials. Be sure to flush all contaminates thoroughly, especially around wall frame areas. Use a pressure washer if available, especially to remove contaminants in hard to access areas. Use a wet vacuuming after power washing to remove remaining water.
- Repeat steps 2 through 5 as necessary, until all surfaces are clean and contamination is physically removed.
