Cleaning soil residues brought flood waters

  1. Since disinfectants are neutralized by the large quantities of organic materials found in soils. Disinfecting should always follow after soil cleanup.
  2. When fresh water is restored within the structure, mix a general purpose household cleaner and apply liberally to flooring and walls
  3. Use brush agitation to begin soil suspension and allow approximately 10 minutes of "dwell time".
  4. When possible and appropriate, use a water hose or pressure washer to flush soils and contaminants from surfaces. Start from top to bottom, walls to flooring.
  5. Use a wet vacuum or mop to clean up excess rinse water from flooring materials. Be sure to flush all contaminates thoroughly, especially around wall frame areas. Use a pressure washer if available, especially to remove contaminants in hard to access areas. Use a wet vacuuming after power washing to remove remaining water.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 as necessary, until all surfaces are clean and contamination is physically removed.
