Identify water sources
IICRC notes that there are two sources of water entrance into a building.
- Wind-blown rain water enters a building. When wind-blown water is the case, it is important to identify where the source of water entered the building. Find the exact source or sources of water will help better identify water damaged materials.
- Rising water entering the building is can be identified by a visible water line on drywall or paneling. Water may move beyond the paneling and soak into insulation or other building materials. This is the most common source of water damage during a flood. A majority of the submerged building materials will be unsalvageable.
